SESSION TIME TITLE Session Information
VS1 12:00 pm-12:50 pm THE MONO PROJECT - HOW THE OPEN SOURCE COMMUNITY EMBRACES .NET Abstract: Mono, an open source community implementation of the .NET development frameworks, is changing the way developers approach application development for enterprise Linux applications. With Mono, .NET applications can be easily developed for multiple platforms, including Linux. This session, let by Erik Dasque, Senior Product Manager for Mono will bring you up to date with the latest news from the Mono project, from the state of the project today, to a glimpse of Mono's future potential.
Speaker(s): Erik Dasque - Novell Ximian Services
VS2 1:00 pm-1:50 pm ENTERPRISE OPEN SOURCE Abstract: Open Source software can offer a compelling value proposition -- security, stability, price, and flexibility. But polarized debate over open and proprietary solutions, and confusion about different application domain maturity levels, make it difficult for decision-makers. This session will be of particular value to both IT executives and those looking to influence their decisions. The results of a survey conducted by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance on corporate attitudes and adoption plans will be released in this session. There will be stimulating panel discussion and concrete recommendations on how CIOs can cut through "FUD" to get to "ROI". Panel participants include an expert on technology adoption, a leading Open Source consultant, and a legendary Linux advocate.
Speaker(s): Ross Button - CGI

VS3 12:00 pm-12:50 pm SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT - THE NEW FRONTIER FOR LINUX Abstract: Defining a common standard for systems management enables the Open Source community, to leverage current proprietary systems management tools to manage and run software stacks -- both Open Source and proprietary -- flexibly. The standard will enable ISVs to write to a single standard API for systems management -- providing Linux users with an explosion in available applications. Collaboration and knowledge sharing between IT vendors and Open Source projects will efficiently maintain standards and enable comprehensive support of systems management and hardware platforms alike. Learn: how Linux runs on every architecture; 90% of IT needs are addressed with Open Source; you are not tied to one vendor Open Source provides a complete ecosystem.
Speaker(s): Juergen Geck - SUSE LINUX
VS4 1:00 pm-1:50 pm THE OPEN SOURCE ARCHITECTURE EXTENDING OPEN SOURCE BEYOND THE OPERATING SYSTEM Abstract: Karen Bennet, Red Hat vice president of tools, will offer her vision of the Open Source architecture and extending the value of Open Source beyond the operating system into other areas of the technology infrastructure.
